Lane Couch rushed for 209 yards in De Leon’s win over Stamford, while Zyler McClendon piled up 246 yards as Stephenville edged Brownwood.
Two of the strongest verified rushing performances in VarsityVue’s Week 2 coverage came from De Leon’s Lane Couch and Stephenville’s Zyler McClendon.
Couch carried 21 times for 209 yards and two touchdowns as De Leon defeated Stamford 57-7. His 27-yard touchdown run helped fuel a 36-point second quarter that turned the game decisively in the Bearcats’ favor. De Leon finished with 377 rushing yards and 476 total yards.
McClendon was even busier in Stephenville’s 28-24 rivalry win over Brownwood. He logged 35 carries for 246 yards and scored twice after halftime, helping the Yellow Jackets control possession and finish with 280 team rushing yards.
The two performances came in very different games. De Leon built a commanding lead before halftime, while Stephenville had to answer a late Brownwood score and win in the final minute. In both cases, the running game was central to the result.
Stamford receiver Levi Vahlenkamp also produced a notable individual performance, catching five passes for 121 yards in the Bulldogs’ Week 2 matchup with De Leon.
